About ANWA

The American Night Writers Association (ANWA) is a unique professional organization for LDS writers. ANWA helps writers of all levels and genres, published and unpublished, by matching them up with a critique group.

Our purpose is to encourage, assist, educate, and motivate members to write, and, if they desire, to publish their works.

How it Works

Members are divided into chapters based on their geographical location. (We also have online chapters for members who do not live in close proximity to a local chapter, or whose schedule does not permit them to attend the local chapter meetings.)

Chapters meet monthly, and consist of a writing-related lesson and inspirational thought, followed by a critique of each other's works-in-progress.

Benefits of Membership

Members can join for only $30 a year (prorated to the month they joined). Membership includes:
  • Inclusion in monthly chapter meetings
  • Access to the ANWA Facebook
  • Conference and event discounts
  • Friendship, encouragement, and inspiration

ANWA members have varied writing goals: some are published, some seek publication, some write for personal fulfillment.

ANWA hosts a highly regarded annual Writing Conference that is open to the public. Each year we have nationally recognized faculty members including agents, editors and publishers, as well as noted authors, writers and other instructors. We welcome all participants who are interested in writing, both members and non-ANWA members.

ANWA was founded by Marsha Ward in October, 1986 as an all-women’s organization. Marsha saw a need for a group where others shared her religious values and worldviews, and where she could get help with her writing and hone her talents with other like-minded authors. With six charter members in the basement of the old Gilbert Arizona Public Library, ANWA was born.

In September 2016 ANWA members voted to open its membership up to men as well as women.
